2.6. Replacement of engine oil and filter


Replacement of engine oil needs to be made through each 10 000 km of a run of the car with petrol engines and through 7500 km with diesel engines. In case of insignificant operation of the car to make oil replacement at least 1 time a year with replacement of the filtering element.

Frequent replacement of engine oil and replacement of the filter – the most important part of service. At old engine oil there are dissolved particles and pollution that results in premature wear of the engine.

Before replacement of oil it is necessary to warm up the engine up to the working temperature as it considerably increases the fluidity of oil and promotes full removal of old oil from the engine. At plum of oil to be careful as the following oil has high temperature.

1. To install the car so that the drain stopper was in the lowermost point.
2. To weaken a drain stopper approximately on a half of a turn, to place a container for the merged oil under a drain stopper, then to unscrew a stopper completely.
3. To give the chance, some time to flow down to the fulfilled engine oil. In process of oil running off, gradually to move a container to an oil stream.
4. To clear a drain stopper a pure rag. To remove old ring consolidation from a stopper and to establish new. To clear a stopper installation site on the pallet. To screw in a drain stopper, having tightened its moment 25 Nanometers (for diesel engines of 35 Nanometers).
5. For replacement of the filter to install a container under an oil filter.
6. A special key for an oil filter to unscrew the used filter.
7. To clear the surface of connection, to oil fresh rubber laying and to screw in the new filter.
8. To screw in an oil filter a hand to a contact of rubber laying with the engine then to dovintit the filter a hand 3/4 turns (according to the instruction, on its installation, attached to the filter).
9. To fill in fresh oil through the oil-filling mouth located in a cover of a head of the block of cylinders, observing its correct level.
10. To start the engine and to allow to work several minutes then to check leaks around an oil filter and a drain stopper of the pallet.

After start of the engine the control bulb of pressure of oil will burn some time until the pump pumps fresh oil to the highway.

11. To switch off the engine and to wait several minutes that engine oil flew down in the pallet then repeatedly to measure the level of oil and if necessary to add oil.

If at the fulfilled engine oil there is a metal shaving, it usually indicates wear of radical or conrod bearings of a bent shaft.

12. The volume of engine oil corresponding to a difference between tags of "MAX" and "MIN" on the index of level of oil makes about 0,5-1,0 liters.


It is strictly forbidden to pour oil above a tag of "MAX". The modulation of oil leads to failure of consolidations of a bent shaft and the catalyst.

When replacing oil it is desirable to use engine oil, one type and brand. It is desirable not to mix oils of different brands (at a dolivka or replacement). When changing type and brand of oil it is necessary to wash out the engine special means which is added in oil before its replacement. Oils of identical type and brand, but various viscosity can mix up without restriction.
