4.6. Cooling system pump

OHC ENGINES

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To disconnect a wire of weight from the accumulator and to merge liquid from the cooling system.
2. To remove the fan together with the coupling.
3. To take off maple a belt.
4. To unscrew bolts and to remove a pulley from the pump of cooling liquid.
5. To disconnect the elastic pipeline conducting to a heater from the pump of cooling liquid.
6. To remove the elastic pipeline of cooling liquid between the pump of cooling liquid and a radiator.
7. To unscrew three bolts of fastening and to uncover a gear belt.
8. To unscrew three bolts of fastening of the pump of cooling liquid and to completely take the pump.

Repair

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To take from a pump housing pump shaft knot with consolidation, the precision bearing and a rotor.
2. To remove a sealant from a shaft of the pump and to take the precision bearing from a pump housing.
3. By means of a ring and a shaft of the corresponding diameter and length to move a pump pulley nave on a pump shaft so that the end of a shaft acted on 1,5 mm over an external surface of a nave.
4. To install a new sealant on a shaft of the pump and in deepening in the case.
5. To establish on a pump shaft its rotor so that the gap between its blades and a pump housing made 0,8 mm.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To clear the surfaces of connection of a pump housing and the block of cylinders of the engine.
2. To install the pump together with new laying on the block of cylinders.
3. To establish a casing of a gear belt.
4. To connect the elastic pipelines connecting the pump to a radiator and the heater to the pump of cooling liquid.
5. To install the fan.
6. To adjust a tension of a maple belt.
7. To fill the cooling system, to connect the accumulator and to check tightness and functioning of the cooling system. In case of need to add the level of cooling liquid.

DOHC ENGINES

DOHC engine cooling system elements

1 – pump pulley,

2 – water pump,

3 – sealing ring of the pump,

4 – a hose branch pipe from a heater,

5 – a hose branch pipe to a heater

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. For improvement of access to the pump on engines with system of injection of fuel to remove an air inlet, the camera of elevated pressure and the air filter.
3. To merge cooling liquid from the cooling system.
4. To take off a driving belt.
5. To unscrew 4 bolts of fastening of a pulley of the water pump and to remove a pulley.
6. To substitute the corresponding container under the pump, to unscrew 5 bolts of fastening of the pump and to take the pump.
7. To remove a sealing ring from the pump (it is specified by an arrow). The sealing ring of the water pump of round section is subject to replacement.

Installation

Installation is made in the sequence, the return to removal.

Connection of hoses to the case of the water pump of the DOHC engine

And – a heater hose – till May, 1990,

B – a hose of a broad tank – till May, 1990,

C – radiator hose

On models till May, 1990 hoses of cooling liquid were connected to a casing of the water pump as shown the drawing.

On models since May, 1990 the hose of a heater (A) and a hose of a broad tank (V) are replaced with places.

If hoses were removed on earlier models, they has to be are repeatedly connected as on later models, that is to connect a heater hose to the union B and a hose of a broad tank with the union A. It will reduce noise from a heater because of air in system.

V6 ENGINES

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To disconnect a wire of weight from the accumulator and to merge liquid from the cooling system.
2. To remove the fan together with the coupling.
3. To take off maple a belt.
4. To unscrew bolts and to remove a pulley from the pump of cooling liquid.
5. To disconnect the lower hose of a radiator and a hose of a heater from the thermostat case.
6. To unscrew three bolts of fastening of the case of the thermostat to the water pump.
7. To remove the case and the thermostat.
8. To unscrew twelve bolts and to remove the water pump. On some models it is necessary to remove a pulley of a bent shaft and a quencher of tortional fluctuations for access to the lower bolts of fastening of the pump.
