5. Fuel system


The fuel system includes the fuel tank, fuel-supply lines, the fuel pump, the filter, the carburetor with the air filter or one of systems of injection of fuel.

Basic element of fuel system is the carburetor or system of injection which at manufacturer are checked and adjusted on a certain engine and a grade of fuel. The increased fuel consumption and reduction of engine capacity usually are not defect of fuel system, and have other reasons among which especially important role is played by style of driving and traffic conditions. Therefore in carburetors it is necessary to regulate system of idling only carefully. The correct adjustment of system of idling has significant effect on operation of the engine in the transitional modes up to average turns of the engine.

The fuel tank is located in a back part of the car. The pump pumps fuel in the carburetor or system of injection of fuel. Productivity of the pump exceeds requirement of the engine, and surplus of fuel on the returnable pipeline comes back to a tank that excludes formation of steam traffic jams in fuel highways.

On carburetor engines two-chamber carburetors with the lower draft and the automatic gate, Pierburg on OHC and Weber engines on DOHC engines are installed.

On the Weber carburetor management of turns of idling is made by the step engine.

On some models the system of injection of Bosch L-Jetronic fuel is applied. System EECIV the module (Electronic Engine Control Mk IV) (electronic control of the engine) operates.
