7.3. Automatic A4LD transmission

7.3.1. Technical characteristic

GENERAL INFORMATION

The automatic A4LD transmission has four transfers for advance and transfer of a backing. During advance the lever of gear shifting can hold four positions: "D", "3", "2" and "1". On models of early release of situation "D" and "3" also "D" were designated as "DE". Besides, this lever can hold three more additional position, designated: "P", "R" and "N". the 4th transfer is nadperedachy (has the transfer number increasing speed).

Start of the engine is possible only at installation of the lever of gear shifting in provisions "P" or "N". The safety device makes impossible start of the engine if the lever of gear shifting is in any other situation.

Provisions are designated about the lever of the gear shifting located in a car floor. In situation "D" gear shifting happens automatically in all range. The automatic choice of transfer depends on the speed of the movement, however there is a possibility of switching of transfer by the driver on more the lowest pressing of a pedal of an accelerator against the stop (kick-down) in the provision of the maximum opening of a butterfly valve of the carburetor.

Braking by the engine is made in provisions "1" or "2".
